yuck

threw up this morning. the doctor told me that my labs from last wednesday were normal & gave me no other suggestions, other than that he might do a flexible sigmoidoscopy instead of a ct scan. just told me to keep in touch about the rest of my symptoms. gee, thanks for the suggestions other than to keep track of my various sicknesses.

frivolous things i would do with a ridiculous amount of money

after paying off my debts (school loans, car, credit cards), these are the things that i would do with a large sum of cash:

  • give m $10k or similar sum split up so that she's not taxed & can pay part of her school loans
  • pay for my bro & his fiancee's honeymoon to hawaii
  • take mum back to london since she paid for our trip this past spring
  • buy pops the biggest collection of t-shirts ever (i always get him t's for gifts)
  • get a good, expensive haircut that i can maintain myself (i only get my haircut 3-4x per year)
  • host a pizza party (or chipotle) for my coworkers
  • hire moni & z as my part-time stylists
  • send random $50 gas cards & lush cards to my friends
  • visit praha with s. or munchen or roma or amsterdam
  • go to nyc with b to celebrate our 30th birthdays & see a broadway show
  • send my folks on a nice trip for their 35th anniversary in 2010
  • buy the complete discography of bebo norman & matthew west for j
  • make a significant donation to flood victims at my church
  • sign a no-strings small business loan to e to start his chiropractic practice
  • attend a cubs game at wrigley on my first visit to chicago
  • see an nhl game with my hockey-loving coworkers
  • decorate a & k's nursery for k iii
  • self-publish my book

*burp*

for the past few weeks i haven't been feeling so well & my appetite has been lacking, as well as having abdominal pain & extreme fatigue in varying degrees. i've lost about 6 or 7 lbs over the last 3 weeks & i'll be seeing my gi doctor tomorrow afternoon. we already ruled out pancreatitis (thank goodness!) last friday when my labs came back normal. now i'm wondering if it's my spleen or could be mono (enlarged spleen is a side effect) because of my crappy immune system. we'll see what the doc comes up with tomorrow.
but today i had more energy than in a long time (not in excess, but more than yesterday) & all i could think of was how good sweet potatoes with marshmallows & stuffing with gravy sounded. so i hoofed it to the grocery store (a 40-minute round trip) to buy the supplies. i just feasted on way more food than my poor stomach could take, but it tasted so good. i kinda want a second helping, but i'm not sure if that's the best idea... maybe in another hour.

the best purple food in the universe

i'm not generally a fan of purple, in food, clothing or otherwise. admittedly, i loved purple like most little girls, but around 8th grade a 'friend' told me redheads should never wear purple & it sortof ingrained itself into my consciousness. now my only concession is the occasional periwinkle shade in my wardrobe.
but there is one purple food i can eat. my favourite thing ever is pickled beets! and because they aren't exactly easy transport from my parents' 800+ miles away, i rarely ever get to enjoy them. well, i'm planning to change all that by making my first attempt at canning this weekend. i just picked up 2lbs of beets at the farmer's market this morning & i'm going to head to the consignment store later this afternoon to get half a dozen or so half pint jars. i have my great-great grandmother's recipe (i'm not sure if it's the norwegian or english one on my dad's side; leaning towards norwegian-pickled everything!). we shall see how things go tomorrow. i'll try to photodoc my steps & i'm more than happy to share the recipe with the blogosphere.
*fingers crossed* here's hoping they turn out as tasty as i remember!
(and that my entire kitchen is not stained with beet juice!)

bridal update

so, since i have yet to be asked to be a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding, i found out from my mother this week that i won't be until i go home for christmas. my brother's fiancee wants to wait until she meets me face-to-face. i guess that's okay. better than being shut out entirely.
and today my mother went to whatever wedding shop in our hometown for my fsil (future sis-in-law) to find a gown. she, my mom, not being the fashiony type & whatnot, said it was really fun. i'm afraid the bug has hit her. like every mother, the urge to marry off her children & plan the wedding has struck. perhaps it's only because g lives so close & she knows it's not likely to happen with me, due to distance & whatever other circumstances (you know, not being engaged & wanting to elope).
apparently, after trying on a number of dresses, fsil put on one & just stood there staring in the mirror until she burst into tears. the consensus of my mother & the two bridesmaids present: it was the one. her mother, on the other hand, was less than impressed.
and i guess the prospective, yet not confirmed, bridesmaids' dresses will be strapless, tea-length with a bubble skirt in champagne (colours-champagne, chocolate brown & pink) with a brown sash. i'm rather pleased. when my friend m was trying on wedding dresses when i was in nashville 2 years ago, i decided that i like the champagne colour the best for future reference.
hope everyone's having a great weekend!

taxity tax

here's a nifty ol' website that breaks it down nicely for what your tax situation will theoretically look like under mccain or obama's plans:
http://www.obamataxcut.com/

i'd save approximately $480 with obama's plan & be expected to pay an extra $450 buckaroos on mccain's.

also, i loved this post by a blogger i read regularly. i've never met her, but she's always got something funny or thought-provoking to say.
